HISTORY
Eyaa-Keen
Centre was created by Aboriginal people
for Aboriginal people in 1999, to provide
a unique form of Aboriginal Traditional
based therapeutic trauma treatment and psychological
rehabilitation.
Co-Founders
Mel & Shirley Chartrand recognized a need
to develop and deliver innovative programs
to adult individuals, couples and groups
that would address personal and community
development, healing and change. Over the
years they integrated spiritual, mental,
emotional and physical treatment, designed
to facilitate healing and development at
the participant's pace.
Mel
& Shirley started out just the two of them,
working together out of their home, offering
one-on-one sessions and group day programs
using a unique form of Aboriginal Traditional
based therapeutic trauma treatment and psychological
rehabilitation. They formed the company
Being You Inc. through which they provided
their services.
Under
Mel & Shirley's guidance and conviction,
Eyaa-Keen Centre Inc. has evolved into a
growing organization with twelve additional
full-time staff persons, four contract positions,
administrative offices and group meeting
space in downtown Winnipeg, multi-day residential
programs, and a network of support professionals
for additional referrals.
Eyaa-Keen has become a private non-profit
charitable organization run by a volunteer
Aboriginal Board of Directors, recognized
and respected across North America for the
work undertaken.
