ELDER
SUPPORT SERVICES
Eyaa-Keen
is proud to provide a new Elder Support
Services program, offering cultural support
services in various Manitoba Aboriginal
languages to Indian Residential School (IRS)
survivors involved in the process of resolving
an IRS claim through ADR, IAP and CEP.
When revisiting IRS experiences, survivors
are often forced to relive past hurts, abuses,
and traumas, making this process painful
and potentially debilitative for some individuals.
Through Eyaa-Keen Centre, Elders (both men
and women) are available to provide support
directly to IRS survivors through one-on-one
sessions in Winnipeg, and at various activities
and events.
When
requested by IRS survivors, Elders will
provide emotional support, as well as cultural
ceremonies as required. Elders may also
attend and provide support at IRS resolution
proceedings, processes, court hearings;
truth and reconciliation events; and commemorative
events. IRS survivors, as well as immediate
family members and other support persons,
can access Elder support services prior
to applying for compensation for pre-claim
support; during the claim process for support;
and post-claim for after care and future
care.
